Homemade BBQ Sauce
Before we begin talking about these yummy sandwiches, I need to tell you about my favorite homemade BBQ sauce. Or, as my family and I lovingly call it, Grandma King’s Homemade BBQ Sauce. This sauce is amazing and can easily be modified to be gluten-free. In addition, it’s easy to kick up the smokiness, make it tangier, or change the level of sweetness.
I’m not kidding when I say that I use this homemade BBQ sauce as a topping for kinds of dishes.
So Versatile!
At any given moment, you’ll find that I have several jars of this homemade BBQ sauce ready and waiting for me in the refrigerator. I use it on my Versatile Meatballs, grilled hamburgers, baked BBQ chicken, BBQ turkey meatballs, and even on BBQ chicken pizza!
Crockpot
Okay, moving on to tasty Crockpot BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches. Besides being a crockpot-friendly meal, it’s easy to make enough to serve just a few or you can make enough to feed a large group.
When serving just a few, I buy a small pork roast and cook it in my small crockpot. However, if I am serving a group of people I purchase ten to fifteen pounds of pork roast and cook it in my programmable crockpot. Either way, I cook the pork nice and slow (usually overnight).
Pulled Pork
When the pork is fully cooked, it’s easy to shred it into bite-size chunks. I highly recommend using a quality set of meat claws. They really do a fabulous job (as you can see in the picture above).
Sandwiches
You can eat this pulled pork plain, without bread or without BBQ, however, I really like using it to make sandwiches.
Obviously, to save time and effort, you can always use your favorite brand of store-bought BBQ sauce and/or other condiments.
Sides
Depending on the event, recommended sides could include:
- chips
- french fries
- dill pickle spears
- coleslaw
- salad
- potato salad
- baked beans
- macaroni and cheese
- grilled asparagus
- nacho chips and salsa
- loaded potato skins
- cheesy chili bean dip
