A Great Side Dish
Creamed peas make a marvelous side dish. They pair well with chicken, meatloaf, ham, burgers, and grilled fish such as salmon or shrimp.
Fresh Garden Peas
Have you ever eaten garden peas straight from the vine and out of their shell? Honestly, there isn’t any comparison between garden-fresh peas and store-bought. Fresh garden peas are crisp and sweeter than their counterpart.
As a child, I vividly remember helping my mother plant a long row of peas. One of our favorite varieties is called Sugar Snap peas.
Other Recipes Incorporating Peas
As you know, peas are good in all kinds of recipes. Add them to Hearty Bean and Hamburger Soup, Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Primavera, Tuna Noodle Casserole, or Shrimp and Pasta. They are also wonderful in salads such as a Christmas Layered Salad.
This recipe for creamed peas is exceptionally easy. All you need are peas, water, butter, light cream or milk, a little flour (or cornstarch), and seasoning. I use a cast iron skillet, however, you can also use any non-stick skillet or saucepan.
Additionally, feel free to adjust the amount of seasonings to suit your individual tastes. If you like pepper you may want to add an extra sprinkle on top as a garnish.
