Good Old-Fashioned Bread Recipe
As of this time I have not tried making a gluten-free version of this recipe. Therefore, all of the photos in this particular blog post are of bread made with wheat flours. Because I am on a gluten-free diet I personally can’t partake in this Homemade Cinnamon Yeast Bread. However, I still occasionally make a loaf for my 91-year-old father. In his younger years he made this exact recipe in his bread machine, which I still use today.
Bread Machines
Speaking of bread machines, this recipe for Homemade Cinnamon Yeast Bread can be made the good old fashioned way by hand. However, I haven’t included that method in this post because I’ve always made this bread in a bread machine. From start to finish it’s just way easier and less messy. Note: Some newer bread machines now come with a gluten-free setting. This is a nice option since you can also buy gluten-free bread mixes now days.

Homemade Cinnamon Yeast Bread Made in a Bread Machine
This homemade bread is delicious as is, but it's even better when served warm with a pad of butter and some jelly, jam, or apple butter.
Ingredients
- 7 ounces water, divided
- 1 (1/4 ounce) package Rapid Rise dry yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 2-1/2 cups white bread flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 heaping teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 heaping Tablespoons quick cooking oats
- 2 Tablespoons powdered milk
- 3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 Tablespoon sorghum molasses (or 2 Tablespoons honey)
Instructions
- Using a glass measuring cup, warm 1 ounce water (same temp. as when heating up a baby's bottle); add dry yeast and 1/4 teaspoon sugar. (The yeast 'feeds' off of the sugar and helps it to rise.) Allow yeast to rise until it's frothy and fully dissolved (about 5 minutes). Place yeast mixture into bread machine pan along with the remaining 6 ounces of water.
- Add remaining ingredients. If needed, gradually add additional flour (a Tablespoon or so at a time) until a soft barely-sticky dough is formed. Turn the bread machine on using the appropriate setting.
- When bread has finished baking, carefully remove from the bread pan. Cool for 10 minutes. Slice and serve.
- Store leftovers in airtight container.
