Recently my husband and I were discussing some of his favorite childhood meals and he mentioned a dish called spaghetti pie. First of all, I had never heard of spaghetti pie, but it did sound good! Now that’s rather interesting. Delicious spaghetti but in pie form. Yum!

I was finally able to locate this recipe in the Martin family’s cookbook and made it while he was at work, (in case I messed it up). Thankfully it turned out amazing! My kids and I ate an entire pie in one sitting. It was actually easier and less messy for my little ones to eat than normal spaghetti. It’s probably because the noodles are not as long once the pie is cut into slices.
While Spaghetti Pie is just as easy as making normal spaghetti, it certainly puts a whole new spin on serving messy pasta. Simply layer the ingredients (like a pie) and bake it for a short time.
Start with 1 pound of ground meat: beef, sausage, turkey, or a combination. Cook and drain off the grease.
Cook the noodles according to package directions and add Parmesan cheese and two beaten eggs, mix well.
Side note: I used gluten-free noodles since some of my family members can’t have gluten. Otherwise, this recipe is gluten-free.
The noodles are the “crust” so place a layer of noodles in the bottom of your pie plate and shape the noodles to also go up the sides of the pie plate. Be sure to cover the bottom well, however, you also want to save room for the remaining ingredients.
Next, add your meat and spaghetti sauce. You can use whatever sauce you like although I like to use my favorite homemade sauce: Made from Scratch Spaghetti Sauce.
Because I didn’t want the noodles to dry out too much while baking, I made sure I used plenty of sauce to adequately cover the noodles.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for 10 minutes. Add cheese and continue to bake until the cheese is melted. The recipe calls for cheddar cheese but I ran out so I mixed the little bit of cheddar I had with mozzarella. It was delicious!
Right after supper was over I started editing these pictures on my computer. My 6-year-old son walked up to me and said, “Oh man my mouth is watering just looking at those pictures. I wish I could have more!” This was seriously not 20 minutes after he had two big helpings of this!
