Blackberries

Naturally, growing up on a farm meant I had chores. One chore was to help my mom pick ripe blackberries from our blackberry patch. I really didn’t mind this job because it was easy and meant we were going to enjoy a fresh homemade blackberry pie or blackberry cobbler. Mmm… so good! 

Later in life, I discovered that a homemade Blackberry Mojito is also delightful and uber refreshing! Especially on a hot summer day! 

Ready to eat Baked Sticky Blackberry Chicken Wings

New Addition!

Now, this recipe for Spiced Blackberry Chicken Wings can be added right along with those other yummy blackberry recipes!

Let me tell you how to make them.

First, start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. Next, cut 16 to 18 chicken wings at the joints and place them onto a large baking sheet lined with non-stick aluminum foil. Bake for 20 minutes, remove the pan from the oven and drain off the fat drippings.

Generously coat each piece of chicken with blackberry sauce.

Blackberry Sauce

The sauce is made by combining all-natural blackberry jam, melted butter, Chinese Five Spice, and onion powder, garlic powder, and chili powder. In addition to this, add both white pepper and black pepper, sea salt, and liquid smoke

NOTE: Please feel free to adjust the amount of each spice in order to suit your individual tastes. 

Next, use a basting brush and generously slather the sauce onto the wing pieces.

Bake

Place the pan back into the oven for another 40 minutes, or until the meat is cooked thoroughly. 

NOTE: Although I’ve only made Spiced Blackberry Chicken Wings in the oven, they probably can be grilled. I suggest brushing the sauce on in increments to prevent it from sliding off.

Because chicken wings are finger food, I like to serve carrot and celery sticks, chips, and pickle spears alongside.

Spiced Blackberry Chicken Wings
Yield: Approx. 6 Servings

Spiced Blackberry Chicken Wings

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

These amazing (and easy-to-make gluten-free) wings are sweet and spicy and have a hint of smokiness.

Ingredients

  • 16 to 18 chicken wings (approx. 3 pounds)
  • 1 cup all-natural blackberry jam (GF Option: use a gluten-free brand)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke (GF Option: use a gluten-free brand)
  • Garnish - fresh parsley and/or thinly sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a 15x10x1-inch baking pan with non-stick foil; set aside. Cut wings at joints; place chicken wing pieces in the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes. Drain off fat drippings.
  2. For the sauce, mix together blackberry jam, melted butter, Chinese five-spice, onion, garlic and chili powders, white and black pepper, and sea salt. Stir in liquid smoke. Generously brush sauce on wing pieces.
  3. Place wings back into the oven; bake for 40 minutes, or until chicken is thoroughly cooked.
  4. Garnish with fresh parsley and/or green onions. Serve immediately.

Notes

Note: Adjust the amount of each spice to meet your individual tastes.

Spiced Blackberry Chicken Wings take just a little bit of time, but they are so worth it!!!
